The Spirit of Community

This often-used quote has been resonating with me over recent weeks as I have had the privilege of meeting with several groups of parents who contribute so generously to our school community.

In the last fortnight, I’ve met with both the GPA Steering Committee, Class Parents, and hosted a Parent Education evening focused on strengthening a consistent, whole-school approach to the daily student experience, to wellbeing for learning and to student support. Across each of these gatherings, what stood out most strongly was the spirit of partnership between parents and staff, all working towards a shared goal: nurturing a flourishing community through the intentional shaping of a positive, connected and thriving school culture.

At the Parent Education evening, attendees provided thoughtful and detailed feedback on our draft Parent Guidebook that when complete, will provide an overview of our School’s approach to creating a flourishing student culture. Their insights, questions and suggestions were deeply appreciated and will help shape a resource that better supports families in understanding and engaging with school life.

I would also like to acknowledge and celebrate the work of our formal parent volunteers. Through their advocacy, enthusiasm and energy, our GPA Steering Committee representatives and Class Parents play a vital role in representing the parent body and strengthening the connections that make our community so special. These volunteers generously contribute their time and care, helping to create opportunities for communication, collaboration and belonging across the school.

And as we approach Term 4, I’m thinking particularly about Class 4 families and the Family Fair Organising Committee, who are already working tirelessly behind the scenes to prepare what promises to be a magical Family Fair at Castlecrag on Saturday, 14 November. Their commitment is a wonderful example of the many ways parents contribute to the life of the school beyond the classroom.

One of the great strengths of our school is the shared understanding that raising and educating young people is a collective endeavour. Together, staff and families create a village around our children, providing the relationships, support and sense of belonging that help them grow into capable, compassionate and purposeful young people.

For all who volunteer, contribute ideas, offer feedback, organise events or simply lend a helping hand, thank you. Your involvement enriches our community and helps bring to life the connected, caring culture we value so deeply.

Tonight, we look forward to welcoming families and students from Class 5 through to Year 11, and even some Year 12s, to our School Concert, a special celebration of the talents, dedication and growth of our students. For those still wishing to attend, last-minute tickets can be booked here .
