Student Voice & Leadership

At Glenaeon Rudolf Steiner School, student leadership is nurtured as a natural expression of personal growth, responsibility, and community connection.

Students are encouraged to develop initiative, confidence, and empathy as they learn how to contribute positively to the life of the school and the wider world.

Voice, Responsibility and Contribution

At Glenaeon, leadership grows naturally through learning, responsibility, and meaningful participation in community life.

Students are encouraged to develop initiative, confidence, and empathy as they learn how their actions can positively shape the school and the wider world.

Leadership is understood not as authority, but as the capacity to act with purpose, integrity, and care for others.

Growing Leaders from Within

Leadership at Glenaeon is not limited to formal titles.

It is cultivated through everyday experiences that invite students to take responsibility, collaborate with others, and contribute thoughtfully to shared endeavours. As students mature, they develop self‑awareness and a strong sense of purpose, forming the foundation for authentic and compassionate leadership.

Across the High School years, students are offered increasing opportunities to lead, mentor younger peers, and contribute to school initiatives, building confidence, capability, and independence over time.

Leadership in Practice

Leadership at Glenaeon is not limited to formal titles.

Students may engage in leadership through a variety of pathways, including:

  • Student leadership roles and representative groups
  • Mentoring and buddy programs with younger students
  • Contribution to school events and community initiatives
  • Service projects and social responsibility programs
  • Collaborative decision‑making and student voice forums

These experiences encourage students to understand leadership as service: supporting others while contributing to the wellbeing and vitality of the community.

Senior Student Leadership (Years 11–12)

In Years 11 and 12, senior students play an important role in upholding and modelling Glenaeon’s values and culture, helping to set the tone for the whole school.

All students are encouraged to recognise their capacity to lead and are expected to demonstrate responsibility, respect, and initiative.

In addition, senior students may be appointed to formal leadership roles, including:

  • Portfolio Leaders across areas such as Events, Visual Arts, Sport, Student Culture, Drama, and Music
  • Student Representative Council (SRC) Leaders

Students appointed to leadership positions demonstrate:

  • Leadership skills and/or leadership potential
  • Active service to the Glenaeon community
  • Consistent application in learning and co‑curricular involvement

Developing Skills for Life

Through leadership experiences, students build essential lifelong skills, including:
  • Communication and public speaking
  • Teamwork and collaboration
  • Initiative and problem-solving
  • Organisation and responsibility
  • Empathy and ethical decision-making

These qualities empower students to step forward with confidence and contribute meaningfully in future academic, professional, and community settings.

A Culture of Contribution

Glenaeon values leadership that is inclusive, compassionate, and purposeful.

Students are encouraged to recognise their ability to make a difference, whether through small everyday actions or larger initiatives. This culture of contribution supports the development of thoughtful young people who are prepared to engage responsibly with the world around them.
