Glenaeon students outdoor learning

Years 7–12 Learning with Purpose

The High School experience involves creative expression, real-world connection and deep thinking, shaping confident, capable young adults.

A Balanced Learning Program

A Dual Pathway Approach

All students follow a program that:

  • Meets all NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) requirements, leading to the award of the Higher School Certificate (HSC), enabling direct pathways and strong preparation for university or other tertiary pathways
  • Is enriched by Steiner curriculum content and pedagogy, nurturing confidence, creativity, resilience, and a sense of purpose for life in a complex, changing world

Students complete all mandatory learning areas while engaging in deeper, immersive learning experiences through Glenaeon’s Main Lesson program - extended units of study that that support diverse learning styles and allow ideas to be explored in depth.

Year 7-12

A Balanced Learning Program

The High School years focus on engagement, curiosity, and breadth. Learning is lively, experience based, and designed to support students as they journey the adolescence years.

Aesthetic

A rich creative and performing arts program for every student, including Art, Music, Drama and Eurythmy.

In Year 7, students perform an annual play, and a Shakespeare Festival in Year 8. Year 10 students produce a full musical.

Drawing, painting, singing and instrumental music form part of the weekly curriculum.
Every child is recognised as a creative individual, developing the imagination and confidence to generate new ideas and ways of thinking throughout life.

Students engage in meaningful, hands‑on craftwork, beginning with textiles and progressing to wood, metal, stone and glass by Years 8 and 9.

The Artisan program builds practical understanding of materials while developing entrepreneurial skills such as design, planning, execution and reflection. Students gain confidence and creativity through making objects that are both useful and beautiful.

Altruistic

A Glenaeon education is grounded in relationships. Each classroom is a respectful learning community where empathy and mutual responsibility are cultivated.

Personal responsibility underpins student conduct and interpersonal ethics. Through school‑wide social justice initiatives, students develop a strong ethic of service and a commitment to contributing positively to the wider world.

Years 7 & 8 A Strong Foundation

Glenaeon’s early High School program sparks curiosity through dynamic, experience‑based learning across a rich range of subjects. Designed to align with students’ developmental stage, the curriculum unfolds naturally, supporting deep personal and academic growth.

Core subjects, including English, Mathematics, Science, History and Geography, are taught through immersive, cross‑curricular units alongside regular timetabled lessons, building skills and understanding over time. A broad offering of languages, technology, the creative and performing arts, PDHPE and outdoor education ensures a vibrant, well‑rounded learning experience.

Years 9 & 10 Choice, Challenge and Transition

Years 9 and 10 mark a transition toward senior schooling, with increasing independence and subject choice.

Core academic learning continues, alongside the introduction of Major and Minor electives that reflect student interests and strengths.

Students continue with:

  • English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, PDHPE, Choir, and Outdoor Education

Electives may include areas such as Commerce, Drama, Music, Studio Arts, Technology, and Languages. Minor subjects are reviewed annually and may include offerings such as Digital Media, Ceramics, Photography, or PE Extension.

Additional opportunities include:

  • A full‑scale musical production involving all students in Year 10
  • Duke of Edinburgh Award, Work Experience, Outdoor Education programs, and leadership initiatives

Years 11 & 12 Depth, Independence, and Preparation for Life

Students follow a personalised course of study that balances academic focus with shared experiences that foster belonging and wellbeing.

Students work toward:

  • The Higher School Certificate (HSC)
  • The Glenaeon Record of Accomplishment (GRoA), recognising additional learning unique to Glenaeon, including philosophy, leadership, outdoor education, and artistic programs

A wide range of HSC subjects are offered on campus, with additional courses available through external providers such as the NSW School of Languages, Distance Education, TAFE, and TVET pathways.

Main Lessons remain central in the senior years, supporting deep engagement, independent thinking, and connection to the “big ideas” that sit alongside HSC coursework.
