John Harvey (1980)

Managing Director of the Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation (RIRDC)

John Harvey was entirely educated at Glenaeon, graduating in 1983. John was a great all-rounder: he played hockey at representative level, and as a violinist was the concertmaster of the Sydney Youth Orchestra. He went to the University of New England where he took an honours degree in Agricultural Science. Since then he has built a long career in agricultural research, and is today a leading player in Australia’s world class agricultural research industries.
He has just left the position of Managing Director of the Grains Research and Development Corporation (a large independent corporation with a $500 m budget) and taken up a new position as Managing Director of the Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation (RIRDC).
John began his career in agriculture as a soil conservationist and extension agronomist in Queensland. He joined the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) in 1997, and there held positions including Program Manager, Farming Systems, and became an Executive Manager in 2001, and Managing Director and CEO in 2011. Mr Richard Clark, Chair of GRDC wished him every success in his new role. ‘It is great outcome for Australian agriculture that John‘s experience and networks will continue to be influencing the rural innovation sector. We look forward to working with him in his new role in the future.” Congratulations to John from his alma mater!! Back to Where are they now
