SCHOOL STRUCTURE

Glenaeon Rudolf Steiner School is an independent, co-educational school from preschool to Year 12. It is a not-for-profit company, limited by guarantee. The School Council is the governing body and the educational direction and administration of the school is delegated to Council appointed Managers. Families, through the vehicle of the Glenaeon Parents and Friends Association are integral to the structure and provide substantial support on many practical issues. Together, these groups make up the organisational map of the school and the resulting sense of ‘connectedness’ and community is an important expression of the school's philosophies.

Teachers of excellence
Currently, Glenaeon employs some 40 full- and part-time highly qualified teachers, many of whom have been with the school for between one and two decades. While the norm for our staff is a formal teaching qualification and Steiner training, approximately half of our teachers hold, in addition, higher tertiary qualifications.

Annual and biannual in-service training seminars feature local and international speakers, and weekly staff development sessions are held for all staff. Teachers attend international and interstate educational conferences as school representatives, as recipients of international study awards and as valued speakers. In association with Sydney's Parsifal College, Glenaeon works with trainees in an accredited course, the Advanced Diploma of Steiner Education, through which students may gain advanced standing into a Bachelor of Education. These initiatives allow Glenaeon to remain at the forefront of educational practice.

The School Council
The School Council is the Board of Directors of the school and carries the final responsibility for all aspects of the school. Council delegates the daily management of the educational, pastoral and financial fabric of the school to duly appointed Managers.  Membership of Council comprise a wide variety of skills and usually involves current and past parents, staff and other interested supporters of the school.

The Parents & Friends Association
The Parents & Friends Association is the vehicle by which the parent body contributes its time, energy and support to the teachers and students of Glenaeon. Parents commit, on school entry, to active participation in Parents & Friends Association activities. Participation is welcomed at many levels and in various ways: as class parents, as rostered helpers for parent meetings, school functions and fundraising events, as participants in the Community Involvement Program (CIP), as members of committees, and as classroom helpers for reading and craft.

Parent Education Group
Members of the Parent Education Group (PEG) are drawn from the school community. PEG organises talks on Steiner  education to increase parents' understanding of our educational philosophy. It runs the Well of Wisdom (the parents' library), a 'shelf shop' at Castlecrag, and arranges access to Anthroposophical family health professionals as required.

Learning communities
Parents and teachers accept the administrative and operating demands of the Steiner organisational structure, and both groups are invited to exercise initiative and take on responsibility. Apart from the financial and practical benefits of active participation, parents, teachers and students are also rewarded by a sharing of social consciousness and involvement in the life of the school community.

The Glenaeon Circle
The Glenaeon Circle embraces past and present students, staff, parents and friends. It aims to unite those communities and nurture the ethos of Glenaeon within them. The Circle is self-funding, financially independent of the school and managed by honorary guardians drawn from its membership. Circle responsibilities include newsletters, social events and support of the school and its activities.
