Next Wednesday (day of the Castlecrag Harvest Festival) we will use Preparation 500 and biodynamic soil activator in a BD stir. What is a BD stir you ask?  Prepartion 500 is made by filling a cow's horn with cow dung, and burying it in the soil during the cooler months. It is the basis, in Biodynamic farming, for soil fertility and the renewal of degraded soils.  Preparation 500 is a powerful soil activator helping the root development and growth of the plant as well as humus formation in the soil. The soil activator brings the influence of all the biodynamic (BD) preparations into the garden, enhancing the breakdown of organic matter, attracting beneficial fungi, bacteria and earthworms and allowing your plants to be sensitive to cosmic influences.

The BD stir involves creating a vortex in a large metal container with the above ingredients. "When we recreate this vortex in biodynamic farming, we are connecting with the universal creative water rhythms or pulse within the body of the earth. This can be found in all living things, for instance in the heartbeat. It is exciting to discover the expression of the vortex in spiral forms in nature also," The Vortex Explained by Peter Proctor -- Grasp the Nettle

All families welcome to take some home for their own garden
You will notice the difference!
