Over the summer break, Year 11 student Elizabeth Neal enjoyed a week experience hosted by the University of NSW at a Women in Engineering Camp. Elizabeth learned about many of the different fields of Engineering, and had site tours at Qantas, the ABC Studios and UNSW’s sustainable Tyree building. She had the opportunity to design a device to assist the blind at home, a water purification system, and a new computer program. Most importantly she met a number of female professional engineers and learned about their career paths. UNSW has made it a mission to increase the representation of women in an industry dominated by men, and Elizabeth’s experience is intended to improve the perception of engineering among young women students who are considering careers in the industry. Elizabeth certainly came back inspired, and we wish her all good fortune in pursuing her career ambitions!
