On Saturday 1 September, 14 students competed in the 2018 Sunsprint Solar vehicle competition held at UNSW. The event requires students to work together to build a working car and/or boat model that is only powered by solar energy. The vehicles needed to meet specific criteria (information and details on the event website www.sunsprint.com.au). Cars were raced over a 20m straight track and the “seafaring” vessels needed to travel across a 10m straight pool. Cars and boats raced in pairs alongside each other in an elimination style tournament, which saw two vehicles compete in the “Final race off” for the day. Top right is Elke "Pink Squid" car.
