Steiner Schools Athletics Carnival
It was a wonderfully sunny spring day at the Mingara Athletics Field
It was a wonderfully sunny spring day at the Mingara Athletics Field on the Central Coast when about 300 students from five Steiner schools - in Sydney (Lorien Novalis and Glenaeon), from Maitland, Central Coast and Newcastle competed in the carnical. Students dressed up in their three house colours and competed in many different athletic events during the day. A relay race at the end crowned the day (unfortunately we were just to leave when that happened). It is a great opportunity twice a year to meet for swimming (in autumn) and for athletics (in spring) with the wider NSW Steiner community and for students to get to know each other, compete together and share their experiences of going to a Steiner school in between events.
It was a seamless day with great organisation for all involved and some great talent was evident in many of the events! Students came away with a feeling of empowerment and achievement by having tried athletic events in a proper stadium and under real conditions against partly unknown opponents! This is building inner and outer strength and will live with them for some weeks to come!
