On Saturday, we all watched the final game of the Senior girls team in their weekend comp at Willoughby. The team - Jaz, Abbey, Tabitha Schuyler, Ruby, Emi and Aya - were only seven girls so had no sub to help out this season. They have missed out on finals and played their very last game for this season last Saturday due to forfeiting so many games, being a team made of Year 9 and 10 with many outdoor program commitment, yet they were very competitive in their division. Despite all this, they had so much fun and what a force they were! They worked so well together and the bonds they created will stay with them as they continue their schooling, even off the court.
In these competitions each team must provide a ref and Joc and Elizabeth Ellean spent hours volunteering to umpire and referee the girls’ games, expending valuable coaching tips at any time when asked! A season cannot go ahead with dedicated people like them!
Abbey Hardwick’s mum Deanne again managed the team she has looked after so well for so many years. We also owe her a great deal of thanks and respect to attend association meetings and be there when needed to coordinate uniform and all around supporting the girls to get on the court and do their best. The girls were coached all season by Alethea J. their wonderful coach, who now is overseas and has kindly and courageously been replaced by our own Abbey Hardwick as a player-coach for the remainder of the term. I congratulate everyone involved in their efforts and wish Abbey all the best in her role for the remainder of the term.
Our junior netball team is still going strong and WILL PLAY FINALS in the coming weeks (more on that soon).
