The next Parent Education seminar will take place on Friday 22nd August at 7pm, and will be presented by the Head of School, Andrew Hill.
We will be screening a DVD from the UK The Challenge of Rudolf Steiner (90 minutes long) that provides a survey of many initiatives around the world based on Steiner’s work, followed by conversation around the theme. A range of biodynamic wines and cheeses will be available to facilitate the discussion.
Dr Rudolf Steiner was the opposite of a guru: his work was intended to cultivate individuals who could think independently and act ethically in society. From his suggestions, many people over the course of the 20th century pioneered initiatives in a remarkably diverse field of human endeavour: education, agriculture, the visual arts, finance, medicine, special education, social ecology, drama and more. He was ahead of his time: in education alone, many practices which Dr Steiner advocated are now part of the mainstream including reflective teaching, collaborative management, the role of the arts, global perspectives, non-denominational spirituality, positive psychology, and sustainability, to mention a few.
Dr Steiner was a successful pioneer in so many fields yet his work is founded in a view of the human being that challenges the purely materialistic aspect of contemporary thought.
