On August 15th, 37 of our students participated in another very successful Athletics ISD Carnival team at ES Marks Athletics Tracks in Centennial Park. Glenaeon athletes did very well, coming 1st, 2nd or 3rd in many of the events and bringing home a lot of ribbons. Glenaeon placed third out of nine schools, a formidable effort as many schools have a much larger student body. All students contributed to the overall success of the school, adding points to the school tally simply by taking part in different events. We greatly enjoyed observing the achievements from the stands, and the wonderful spirit of the day was added to by the sunshine and our successes in the track and field events. Our students were very well behaved and displayed a very positive attitude throughout the different events, cheering on runners, jumpers and throwers.
Outstanding results were achieved by the following students who came first in their events for their respective age group, qualifying for the next level, the AICES Championship (please read below):
Si Yun Tan (Yr 7) 1500m
Scarlet McQueen (Yr 7) Long Jump
Ellie Walsh (Yr 7) Javelin
Daniel Schuster (yr 8) 1500m
Lola Milman (Yr 8) 100m, 200m, 400m
Many more came 2nd and 3rd in their events and proudly displayed their ribbons. It is great to see the smile on their faces when they have achieved something on a bigger stage. I congratulate all winners, runner-ups, third placed and those who dared to jump, run and throw things, as they all proved: the ultimate winner is the human spirit!
This carnival is the last carnival for the year, and they have provided some very special moments over the year, providing success, drama, wins and losses and a lot of team spirit, cooperation and fun for those who signed up to represent Glenaeon in the wider sport community.
I am delighted with the great results over the year and the achievements of my students in their sporting endeavours!
I look forward to 2018 for another year of improvement and dedication in many wonderful sports!
With best wishes,
