We would like to warmly congratulate the Class of 2014 on their excellent Higher School Certificate results; the outcome is a great credit to them and to their teachers.

We strive to produce thoughtful, well-rounded graduates, and are confident that the Class of ‘14 have stepped into the world ready to find their place in society as young men and women of distinction. To be eligible for the Higher School Certificate, students must undertake 10 units of study, selected from a list of Board of Studies approved subjects. In 2014, 27 of our students sat for 147 HSC examinations in 23 courses. In total, 100% of candidates across all courses achieved marks of 50 or more, with 53% of those results placed in the top bands (B5-6 or E3-4).

We congratulate Sasha Lee for her outstanding effort. Sasha was an All Rounder, a student who achieved Band 6 (or top 10% of the state) in each of her subjects. Her accomplishments in the STEM subjects of Physics, Chemistry, and Extension 1 and 2 Maths plus English and German gave her an ATAR of 99.45. On this result and her personal application, she gained both entry and a scholarship to the Bachelor of Philosophy (Honours) degree in Science at the Australian National University. This prestigious course partners undergraduate students with academic staff so students are engaged in research while they complete their first degree. Sasha was entirely educated at Glenaeon and since Kindergarten has performed enthusiastically in all aspects of the school’s program from music and the performing arts, to sport and outdoor education.

In Society and Culture, Elena Monakhova was awarded one of only eight High Distinctions for her Major Personal Interest Project. She was invited to be acknowledged at the annual Society and Culture awards and will have an extract from her thesis presented in the Culturescope publication. We congratulate Elena on this wonderful achievement.

Tom Sandberg’s Major Visual Artwork was nominated and subsequently accepted for the Art Express, a prestigious annual series of exhibitions of exemplary artworks. His work is currently on display at the Hazlehurst Art Gallery. Patrick Gandin was also nominated for OnSTAGE, the performance component of Drama.

In addition the following students achieved mention on the ‘Distinguished Achievers’ list, receiving a Band 6 result in the following subjects:

Fergus Brown – English Extension 1
 Bradley Gilbert – Ancient History
Lucia Langen – German & Visual Arts
Tiaan Mackenzie – Design & Technology
 Zachary Meagher – Music Extension
Elena Monakhova - Society & Culture
Thomas Sandberg – Ancient History, German & Visual Arts

A special  acknowledgement to their Class 1-8 teacher Sophie Forman, Guardians Brigitte Tietge-Rollans and the Year 12 teaching staff. We wish all students every success in the future and thank them and their families for the wonderful contribution that has been made to Glenaeon.
