Class 5 Greek Olympics
Every spring, the Class 5 communities of Kamaroi Rudolf Steiner School and Glenaeon Rudolf Steiner School come together for a very special event.
Every spring, the Class 5 communities of Kamaroi Rudolf Steiner School and Glenaeon Rudolf Steiner School come together to celebrate dance, music and verses, and compete in friendly competition in seven events that date back to the ancient Greek Olympics. Last Monday 17th October, this year’s Class 5 students gathered at Chatswood West Athletics Field to participate in a day of friendly competition in long jump, sprint, discus and javelin throwing, marathon running (400m run) 4 x 100m relay running and wrestling. All students were dressed up in tunics and were part of the four city states of Athens, Sparta, Thebes and Corinth.
The weather gods promised more than they could hold: the event was at times wet and strong determination and resilience was needed from athletes and spectators, helpers and judges. Many happy faces were seen at the end of the day as medals and wristbands told of great achievements in the various sports events. Semi-finals and finals saw exciting match-ups of students, while the winners of the relay teams achieved something together as a group and all were awarded wonderful parent-crafted medals! To all participating parents from both schools and all teachers who made the event happen, and in particular to the class teachers of Classes 5 at Glenaeon and Kamaroi - a big Thank you!!
