Students examine in detail European colonisation of Australia and the expansion of European settlement. They consider the impact of European colonisation on indigenous people at a local and national level. Through stories and representative biographies, through images, poetry and primary sources, the students are given an enduring picture of the human experience and this period of the nation. The period of the gold rush and its social, economic and cultural impact is studied. History, geography, art and literature are integrated to bring the students to a thorough narrative understanding of Australian History from colonisation up to Federation.
