Biodiversity at Middle Cove
Class 6 students recently enjoyed a lesson on sourcing bush tucker around the campus.
Our gardening teachers, Alison and Kathy, invited a bush food expert to come and talk to the students of Class 6 this week, and he managed to find many plants on the school grounds.
Nathan Summers hails from the Blue Mountains, and he introduced the students to several varieties of edible plants like native sarsaparilla, showed them which part of the Lomandra bush was the tastiest, which leaf acts as soap and can heal wounds, and where our native olives live.
The children then came back to the garden classroom and tasted a variety of bush food jams, fruits and berries, including the bush tomato.
